Mugwort Hot Chocolate

As Autumn starts to creep in and bring slightly cooler evenings I naturally start to reach for hot drinks and teas to feel cosy and warm. This mugwort hot chocolate is one of my favourites in autumn just as the mugwort plants are in full flower.

Mugwort has muscle relaxing effects and can help you to unwind as you prepare for bed. The flowers also give a beautiful earthy sage like flavour to the hot chocolate. The perfect autumnal drink!

NB: Mugwort is not safe for consumption during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor or a registered herbalist before taking.

Ingredients:

  • 300ml milk of choice

  • 2 tbsp cacao powder

  • 1 tsp ceylon cinnamon

  • A pinch of sea salt

  • Flowering tops of mugwort (about 3-4 inches)

Method:

  • In a small milk pan or sauce pan heat up your milk on a low heat for approx 4 minutes.

  • Once it’s reached just above luke-warm temperature whisk in your cacao and cinnamon and stir well to dissolve any lumps. I like to use my electric matcha whisk but a normal whisk works just fine.

  • Pop the mugwort tops into the pan and allow to infuse on a low heat for a further 2-3 minutes.

  • Strain out the flowers, pour into your favourite mug and enjoy!
